Wood wins European Tour’s rookie of the year award
By Associated PressPosted: November 25, 2009

LONDON – Chris Wood has been picked as rookie of the year for the PGA European Tour.
The Englishman, who finished third at the British Open, was 44th on the European money list with $1.02 million to secure the award ahead of Gareth Maybin, Danny Willett, Oskar Henningsson and David Horsey.
Wood follows players such as Nick Faldo, Jose Maria Olazabal, Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia in winning the rookie award.
Wood says “looking at the list of names who have won this title makes me appreciate that I am in good company.”
Wood tied for fifth as an amateur at last year’s British Open and finished one shot from the playoff this year in one of his five top-10 placings.
