TOM ABBOTT Posted 10/08/2009, 4:09 PM EST
COPENHAGEN – Optimistic and nervous. Those were the words of Ty Votaw Thursday ahead of his presentation in front of the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen on Friday.
Votaw and R&A chief executive Peter Dawson will lead a six-person delegation which will include Padraig Harrington, Michelle Wie, Suzann Pettersen and the British Amateur champion Matteo Manessero. Tiger Woods and Ernie Els both taped video messages at the Presidents Cup on Tuesday. Those will be shown to the IOC members during the 20-minute presentation inside the Bella Center on the final day the 13th Olympic Congress.
The golf delegation will begin its presentation at 4:50 a.m. ET. Following their 20-minute allotted time, the IOC members will have a 10-minute question-and-answer session before casting their votes. A majority vote is needed from the voting members for golf to return as an Olympic sport, and not all members are expected to participate.
Rugby sevens will repeat the exact same process following the golf vote, the results of both golf and rugby's bids are expected to be announced by the IOC pesident Jacques Rogge at approximately 7 a.m. ET on Friday.
