PGA Tour (75x100)Sources at Plainfield (N.J.) Country Club confirmed the club is in negotiations with the PGA Tour to bring The Barclays to the Donald Ross-designed layout in 2010.

The Barclays bolted Westchester Country Club in 2008 after 40 years at the Harrison, N.Y., club for Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. The first leg of the Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs is scheduled to be played at Liberty National Golf Club this year and under an amended agreement between the Tour and Westchester, The Barclays is set to return to that club at least once before 2012.

Members at Plainfield were informed of the potential move in a letter from the club president. According to the letter, Plainfield and the Tour are in the advances stages of negotiations. Members were also informed of the Tour’s plan to extend four tees with construction beginning in mid-February.

Ty Votaw, the Tour’s executive vice president of communications and international affairs, would not commit on any ongoing negotiations nor would he give the timetable to announce the 2010 Barclays venue. Votaw did, however, confirm that the Tour’s plan is to create a rotation for the event in the greater New York City area.

“We want to make sure we move it around to some of the best courses in the area,” Votaw said.

Plainfield hosted the 1987 U.S. Women’s Open, which was won by Laura Davies, and the 1978 U.S. Amateur which was won by John Cook.
