3Will Wie's victory open floodgates?

Michelle Wie finally won.

Difficult to believe that it’s been more than six long, eventful years since the “can’t-miss kid” won the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links as a 13-year-old. When that happened in June of 2003, there isn’t a person alive who’d have bet that the next one would come in November of 2009. Heck, she’s not even a teen-ager anymore.

Like her or not – and Wie certainly is polarizing – you have to be pleased that she can now go out and play without having to answer questions about when she’ll get the first victory. After all the infamous WDs, MCs, DQs Wie can now go about her business. Perhaps the victory at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational will open the proverbial floodgates.

Wie’s presence is good for the LPGA and confidence after a victory can only help new commissioner Michael Whan as he tries to right the ship. It certainly can’t hurt.

I've seen Wie in action more than 20 times over the past handful of years and have seen her throw away more than one major championship with poor putting, poor decisions. It's refreshing to see her jump up and birdie the 72nd hole to win, which gave her a two-shot victory over Paula Creamer.

It's been a long time coming.

Finally, the wait is over.

Note: The final round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational will air again Monday at 7 p.m.

“Michelle and Tiger finally in same week. WOW, Some one said they were changing The Golf Channel to Tiger and Michelle 24/7, all Tiger and Michelle all the time.”

“Michelle winning was just part of the good news for LPGA. Look at the leaderboard. It had all the stars that can move the needle PR wise. The tour needs more Sundays like this to protect their Sponsors.”
