Amy Mickelson quietly made a return to tour golf this week.
That would be the LPGA tour.
Mickelson, recovering from breast cancer surgery, has not yet been able to make her return to the PGA Tour to see her husband, Phil, play, but she mixed with LPGA pros Monday near her home at the LPGA’s Samsung World Championship. She appeared at a golf clinic at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., that was staged as part of the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit. The public appearance will be taken by Mickelson fans as another encouraging sign that things are going well for the family as Amy makes her recovery.
Amy was representing the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation. The clinic was staged on day one of the three-day Fortune summit, an annual event featuring prominent women’s leaders in business, philanthropy, government, education and the arts. LPGA pros Lorena Ochoa, Jiyai Shin and Jill McGill joined nine LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals in leading the clinic.
United States Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples said last month that he hoped Amy would be able to join other PGA Tour wives when the Presidents Cup is staged at Harding Park in San Francisco Oct. 8-11.
