Hi, I'm Brad Brewer from the GolfChannel.com Academy. This is for you new players. We're trying to teach you how to put the hands on the handle to begin with for a chipping shot. It's a little different from the putter where we had our thumbs going right down the shaft. What we're gonna do is gonna start with our forward hand. And what I would like you to do is start by grabbing around with your index finger like so. Choke down about 2 inches on it and then allow it to kind of rest into your heel pad like this, then grab it with your last 3 fingers. Put your thumb a little bit to the right-hand side of the shaft. A form of V between your thumb and index finger should be pointing over to your right shoulder as a good reference for you. Now when you put the right hand on, I want you to grab it with the middle 2 fingers first keeping your index fingers stretched on the shaft. Put your lifeline right on top of your thumb. That will place your thumb over on the left-hand side of the shaft like you see, and there's a V now formed between your thumb and index finger. That should be pointing over to the right side as well. Both V's to the inside of your right shoulder. Now, what do we do with this pinky finger here? There's 3 options, but the option I'm gonna suggest is you just place it on top of the knuckle of your index finger of your left hand. That's we call an overlapping grip. Now, this is a basic grip that if we get for the chips, it's gonna work for the pitches into the full swing. This is the grip we use for all of our full shots. It's gonna give us the ability to be able to swing back, hinge in and That's what the difference from that and our putting grip or we didn't want to have any hinging and releasing going on.
