My Newport 2 - my first Cameron, I loved it - great balance - 34", 15g weights - I really, really liked it. I was at the range, left my bag 2x for about a minute each time to get a bucket of balls, then hit a few chips, looked down to get the putter and - poof - no putter. I had put it in the bag when I got out of the car. Some SOB took it from my bag one of the times I went for balls.

I hate this. Makes me feel sick.

But now I need a new putter. I liked this one so much that it really opened my eyes to the wonderful world of better putters. I might just get another just like it, but I might as well pause and look around first. If I do get another one, I am going to put a "Acme" putter headcover on it.

I am an arc putter, loved the balance of this one. I am thinking putter fitting might be worth the time/money. Plz help me think about how to approach buying a new putter. I am a "blade" guy - mallets are hard for me to align square. Love the great feel of a solid strike, like knowing when I hit it square and when I don't. What are the keys in getting fitted properly? Thanks...

Arrggghhhh! Man that was a shock. Look in the bag, eager to practice putting. And no putter. Ugghhh.

That really sucks. Hope the replacement lives up to the original.

keepp an eye out at the range....he may show up with your club in his bag.

If you have any ID on the club, CALL THE COPS. Most cities send out a list, or vice versa with paewn shops.....which is where it probably ended up if it was just a thief.

I highly recommend trying a couple of Yes putters, if any meets your eye.....one 'hint'....I have found the Yes works better when putted just fractionally higher off the ground..experiment.

very true roll, and they have 'anser style' heads.....

Sorry to hear about your loss...if the range is adjacent to your club , keep an eye out at the course since it would seem that the thief may well be a patron-all the more reprehensible!!...hopefully you have some identifying marks or markings on the club to confirm the theft...imo, this kind of thing cheapens and demeans the entire experience...and is precisely why I never, ever let my clubs out of my sight-hell, I'm even nervous locking them up in my car trunk! LOL...good luck and I hope the SOB gets terminal yips...

Sorry to hear about your putter, but in this day and age it is sad, but you have keep things in view all the time. It is happening all the time all over S. Calif., someone will come to my shop and ask about their clubs that they left on the range while they got a cold drink, out of site for a min. and gone.

Why don't you contact Scotty and have him make a copy for you. Your homeowner policy may and should cover it.

Hope things work out, and sorry.

Blakey,

What a sham(e)!

May that rotten lout, endure a lifetime of three-putts, and more!

Seriously, I commend you for 'taking the loss, in stride'. However, the thought of someone lifting a fellow golfer's club out in the open at a public facility, would still come as a shock.

I feel for you.

No worries.

With some help, and good advice from the much learned members here on the DB, I am fairly certain that you will find a suitable replacement, and soon!

Cheers, and go well.

That sucks. Similar thing happened to me a few years back. I was at a pretty nice daily-fee course warming up before a round. I was hitting some shots in the practice bunker and put my putter (SC Studio Stainless) and a couple of wedges behind me in the grass. I walked up on the green to collect the balls and when I got back down to the bunker I looked and my putter was gone. I thought one of my friends picked it up but they didn't. I looked around and saw a guy with a bag over his shoulder walking very quickly away from me. It was odd because no one walks at this course. I jumped in the cart and took off after him and as I got closer saw the putter sticking out of his bag. I grabbed it and confronted him and he tried to BS something about finding it on the course. I asked him why he didn't grab the wedges that were next to it and he shut up quickly. The ranger came over and attempted to vouch for the guy - he was a member there and lived in a house along the 10th fairway. I was glad to get the putter back so I just walked away. I wonder how much stuff the guy has stolen over there over the years.

A few guys I was with on a golf trip had stuff stolen from the bag drop after a round (at one of the Golf Digest Top 100 public courses - go figure). We finished up the round and were going in to have dinner. The cart kids cleaned up the clubs and said they would put them at the bag drop and watch them. I put mine in the car (this was soon after the putter incident). When we got out after dinner the cart kids were gone and several SC putters and nice drivers had been stolen. The course denied any responsibility and wouldn't reimburse for any of the stolen items.

Hope you find a good replacement putter. Maybe it's time for a custom putter like a Byron, Slighter, or C&L? The guy who stole yours hopefully has some bad karma coming his way.

Shouldn't be hard to find another. Next time put a generic headcover on it so you don't attract this kind of THIEF !!

I am going to find the least sexy putter cover I can find, one that says, "this is a stupid, worthless putter not worthy of your efforts." Like in Star Wars, "move along. there's no putter here you'd be interested in stealing."

I was so upset I ate almost all the Haloween candy we had left over 'till midnight.

I hope the SOB never breaks 100 again, ever.
