Golf on TV - Palmer interview on TGC    Back to Topics  Page: 1 of 5

Arnie was being interviewed yesterday on TGC during the Sr. event and he went on and on and on about how great TGC was and the people that make it work, and of course the great people doing the broadcasting and interviews and blah, blah, blah. He also talked about his association with Joe Gibbs and what a success TGC is.

He also seemed to be talking like he is still involved in TGC, which I thought he was out of it. Surprisingly he said nothing about his main shoe licker Kelly, or Lerner. It is the greatest and he went on and on about how important and good it is.

I think Arnie is losing it, or does not watch it. :O)

Before anyone tells me it is now Golf Channel, I know, don't bother. :O)

Of course he's gonna say all that stuff...he's not going to bad rap...it's like his baby...just look up on top of this page..."Visit Golf Channel's Destination Spotlight, AP's Bay Hill Club"...everybody is scratching everybody's back...as Robopz stated, "The Golf Channel is not selling golf, they are using golf to sell advertising"...show me the money!

But don't you really think that the Golf Channel is providing a great time for golfers wanting to watch golf activities on tv? Plus this discussion board where so many love to post their opinions?

So I'm really glad that they are around as without them, especially in this economy, we would not see as much golf during the normal golf season, and we'd have no golf in the off season.

And as Arnie was involved in helping to originally get the Golf Channel off the ground he might just be blowing his own horn a little bit.

I am glad you really like it, especially the Disscussion Boards where you are found pinching off the turds every chance you get.

Yes, I enjoy it at times being able to see some Golf in between the infomercials. I especially like the Euro Tour Events. IT is good to have, I just found his gushing over it interesting.

Hey RB... I don't mind you using parts of my prior statements... just make sure they are used in context. All channels that have commercials are in the business of selling advertising, thus their content (could be CSI, NFL, OLYMPICS or GOLF or anything else) is the vehicle they use to sell that advertising. But that doesn't mean that they don't have an interest in providing the best content they can? Better content means more ad sales... of course they are going to try to put on the best product they can.

But that said, I've never dissed the "overall" job GC does. Could it be better in some areas? Heck yes. Do I like some of their talent better than others? Heck yes. (but I don't particularly dislike any of them either)

But in total, I believe Golf Channel has improved immensely over the last year and I think they do a very credible job for a niche channel that operates in the sub 1.0 rating world.

Thank you Arnie. Thank you for your role in getting the Golf Channel started.

Conclusion: I for one am VERY happy the Golf Channel exists.

To some extent, I have to assume that EVERY single poster who has ever posted on any GC DB MUST agree with my conclusion. Otherwise... HOW could they be here to post on the GC DB to begin with.

Right...silly me...I was naive enough to think TGC number one consideration was the integrity of the game...the history of the game...the respect for the game...ha, ha, ha...silly me...all that stuff is down the tubes...it's "show me the money"...I was hoping TGC would be DIFFERENT than CNN, ESPN, CSI, etc...ha, ha, ha...silly me..."what a stupid I am"...keep the Cialis ads coming...rb

I honestly believe GC tries to put on the best product they can. It makes absolutely no sense that they wouldn't. But that's not to say you have to agree that they succeed in those efforts. Hey this is an opinion board, isn't it?

But with all due respect... exactly what does GC do that "disrespects" the history or integrity of the game? (he asks as he duck's his head)

Where do I start? The childish and laughable Big Break...Part One through One Hundred? The obnoxious "blue line" on the putting green? The now defunct "WinZone" fiasco? The idiot Alex Miceli? Charles Barkley? The Amazing Race rip-off "Hwy. 18"? "Road Trip Myrtle Beach"?...what was that, a golf version of Beach Blanket Bingo? The endless infomercials for Trikkes and Vegamatics? C'mon...most of their stuff belongs in there with Sat. morning cartoon programming...rb

oops...almost forgot...this whacko Discussion Board is also part of TGC :o)
