I wonder how what much she would have accomplished if she didn't retire at an early age.

I wish I knew more about this lady. She has been basically a recluse for the last 40 yrs.

IMO, She edges Annika has the best ever female golfer.

a friend who plays the champions tour recently spent time with her and he told a interesting story about her. she told him that the only thing she did better than everyone else was that she had the ability to hit a golf ball without caring where it went. her stimulus in the game was swinging the club "properly" and she found she couldn't do that if she was worried about the lake on the left or the ob on the right. she trained herself to do that whether it was on the range or the last hole of the us open. she discovered if she did that she would hit more good shots than others and thus, win more tournaments. the destiny is the journey.

One thing IMHO that Mickey and Byron Nelson did that no other golfers in history have ever done consistantly. They swung as hard as they could and still maintained absolute control - and NEVER any harder. You can't make that 7 iron go another 5 yards without giving up some control. I think at times we all try to do that.

There's no doubt in my mind that Mickey Wright had the best classic golf swing of anyone no matter what the gender.
Mickey was winning as much as Arnold Palmer was during the same time period. I truly think that if Arnold wasn't there to
get the lion's share of the limelight, that Mickey would have been the "Queen" of golf. But she wasn't really the limelight type.

Yes, it is unfortunate that Mickey did not have the flair and charisma of someone like Babe Zaharias or Patty Berg.

As i said, she is a living legend. I remember about reading a LPGA Legends event 15 yrs ago in conjunction with an LPGA event. Mickey played, and while she was warming, and all the current players would watch her swing. She drew a crowd much like Hogan would have.

As I say, I wish I knew more about this lady. I did get to see her play golf one time on TV in the late 70's. She was in a 5 way plaoff which Nancy Lopez won. I was a Lopez fan, but I sure was rooting for Wright during the playoff.

I wonder if she still plays at age 74, and what kind of game she has. I bet she can still "bring it". I loved to have her as a partner in our annual couples scramble.

this player told me that she goes out on the course late in the afternoon with her dogs and just hits shot across fairways and doesn't really play. just likes hitting good shots. she has become somewhat like hogan in that she appears to be reclusive.
