she says 'here we are in san francisco, gateway to the west'.

1. it is st louis, they even have a big arch
2. san fran would be a gateway to the east unless you are swimming to japan
3. does she think before speaking?

She like a lot of people have never looked at a map of the United States or the world. Americans learn geography as a result of wars where we have sent troops. We have never been at war with California and because of that we have not deployed troops in that state. Therefore Kelly has no fwken idea where San Francisco is located. She might even think that the Pacific Ocean is the Mississippi River and Lake Merced is one of the Great Lakes. How is that for an explanation?

San Francisco was the "Golden Gate" to the American West for thousands upon thousands of Asian immigrants, as well as Americans who chose to sail around the Horn rather than make the arduous overland journey during and after the Gold Rush. St. Louis may have more right to the quotes around the phrase, but I doubt that you heard her put quotes around what she said.

And Angel Island was the "Ellis Island" for those Asians disembarking to the "new world". But that does not excuse KT for the gaff. She says things to fill up dead air. The problem is that she fills it up with more dead air. But Kelly is not alone. Miller is getting to be a dead air filler with comments that appear to be made out of boredom or restlessness. Less is more. You can not tell a sports broadcaster that less is more because they are paid by the word and not by the substance. And there lies the problem.

Don't you guys ever get tired of ragging on this poor girl? All in all, she does an exceptional job. She makes a lot fewer verbal gaffs than Miller or Faldo, yet I don't see you whining about getting rid of them.

You "Kelly Haters" are in the minority. There's a reason she never gets fired or replaced... she's very good and MOST people like her. Or do you think she just sleeps with all the executives to keep her job?

BTW, I'm pretty sure she meant to say "Gateway to the Pacific" (which the Golden Gate is often stated to be) and the would be in a westerly direction.

because its been long known that the golf channel will eventually be taking over golf broadcasting.

Miller doesn't have a job at TGC, in hopes of creating an opening the Millerites attack what they believe to be the easiest target...Kelly

They think if they say it enough, those that don't think for themselves will think it is the popular opinion and jump on the their bandwagon.

And thats why they hang on every word hoping to find a mistake.....real or imaginary.
