If I have only 15 minutes to practice on my putting, I would devote 10 minutes of my time on short putts and 5 minutes for long putts.
What I will do is start out with a relatively easy putt that doesn't break much just to build up my confidence. Once I have made a few short putts, I'll move back a few feet and around the hole to where I have a different type of putt. Within only a few minutes, I can experience all kinds of putts by just moving around the hole.
I also have a simple philosophy I like to follow on my long putts. On any putt that is over 15 feet in length, I just try to get it within a three-foot circle around the hole. Whether my ball rolls short or long, left or right of the hole does not matter as long as I get it within that circle. Why do I practice this way before I play? Because it's a quick way to help me sense and feel how the greens are rolling. |
