Why The Golf Channel?
The Golf Channel has a very exciting history and culture. Our company, our reputation and our future success are founded on a strong mission statement, set of shared common goals and core values. Developed by our employees, representing all levels throughout the organization, our Mission Statement is the guiding light to our day-to-day activities and it is a vision for the future of our company.
The Golf Channel was founded on just a "hunch" back in 1990 by cable and cellular entrepreneur, Joe Gibbs when he proposed the idea of a 24 hour golf network to golf legend, Arnold Palmer. TGC was incorporated in 1991 and on January 17, 1995 launched with less than 1,000 subscribers. Today, with over 70 million subscribers, The Golf Channel is the leading global provider of golf entertainment, information and services. The Golf Channel is now a part of Comcast Corporation, the largest communication company in the U.S. with over 21 million customers and over 70 thousand employees. And recently, through an exclusive 15 year deal with the PGA TOUR, The Golf Channel will become the exclusive cable television home for the PGA TOUR's official money events beginning in 2007. This exclusive deal is not only unprecedented in golf, but it also makes The Golf Channel the TOUR's biggest television partner. Employee Focus is important to both The Golf Channel and Comcast. Together we will invest in people with the belief that our company can only be as strong as the work force. |
