Behind the Scenes - For Love of Country

By

Editor's Note: If you want more of an inside look into season four, tune-in every Wednesday for our new Big Break IV All-Access show.

Today the final four got some interesting news. No one would be going home. Instead, the last two Americans and the last two Europeans standing would face off in a head-to-head competition with national pride, a Ford Prize Challenge and a Scottish vacation up for grabs.

The match started with three holes of alternate shot. After the first hole they were all square at ½ point each. On the second hole, the Europe went up by a point and remained that way after hole No. 3. The score now stood at Europe 2, USA 1.

Somewhere in the middle of play, we realized that time was not on our side. It was beginning to get dark and everyone on the crew was certainly wondering and hoping we would have enough time to finish the challenge. No one wanted to fall behind schedule as it would only mean more work the next day.

So, we trudged on with the singles matches. Turns out, T.J. would face Thomas and Paul would play against Guy. The U.S. would need to win one and tie the other to come away with a victory.

However, T.J. and Guy both ended up having a bit of trouble with the hole and fell to their opponents. That secured the victory for Europe.

The Ford Prize Challenge would need to wait until the morning. It was officially too dark to proceed and the production crew called the shoot for the day.

The next day, while the Europeans competed for a Ford Explorer, I would find myself in a much different place…accompanying T.J. and Paul to the range for warm ups before their final match.

But I’ll hold that thought until next week. In Scotland, since the sun doesn’t set until 10:00 PM, the darkness means it’s fairly late. And I know four guys…and one contestant wrangler…that need some sleep.
