Dealing With a Reverse Spine Angle
By Dave Phillips
The Reverse Spine Angle fault is often mistaken for a reverse pivot although they sound similar they are in fact totally different.
The Reverse Spine Angle occurs when a player shifts their weight correctly in the back swing but their torso bends backward as they turn. This causes the spine to bend toward the target at the top of the backswing instead of away from it. In our opinion this fault is the No. 1 cause of lower back pain in golf.
You may be surprised to know that several very successful PGA tour players have this fault including Fred Couples and Colin Montgomerie. They both also have severe back problems that are now affecting their ability to play on a consistent basis on the tour.
As you can see by the fact that several PGA tour stars play with this fault you can still be a very good player and it is one fault that you can recover from on your downswing. However it causes so much stress on your lower back that over time you will suffer from lower back pain.
To learn how you can attack this problem and still keep your game and your back healthy and strong Dr. Rose and I will show you exactly how the fault occurs and what you have to do to strengthen your body and attack this swing fault.
If you have lower back pain you will want to make sure that you tune in to the next episode of the Golf Fitness Academy presented by Titleist Monday June 7 at 9:25 p.m. ET, part of Your Game Night on The Golf Channel.
