FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: When is the next season of Fore Inventors Only?
A: We are planning to hold auditions in early 2008 and hope to shoot the series in the spring of 2008.

Q: What is the application deadline?
A: There is not currently a specific application deadline. However, we will be holding auditions in early 2008 so please submit your application before the end of 2007 to make sure you will be considered.

Q: What are the qualifications to become a contestant?
A: To be eligible, you should have a golf invention that is your own intellectual property. The invention may be a sketch or a working prototype, and it should be completely your own conception. While a patent is not required, it is encouraged. We highly recommend that you consult with a patent attorney prior to participating in this show. You may be selected to present your invention on the series, and your idea would potentially be seen by Golf Channel’s entire viewing audience throughout the world. To be eligible, you should also be available to present your invention through a series of stages in the competition. The full shoot schedule is to be determined but will take place entirely in 2008. You must present your own invention – someone else cannot present it for you. If it is a joint venture, two or more people may present the invention together, but only if it is the shared intellectual property of each of those individuals.

Q: Is there an age limit to participate?
A: You should be at least 18 years old, or you will need to bring your parent or legal guardian to the screening and at all stages of the competition.

Q: Do I need to have a patent to participate?
A: No, you do not need a patent to submit your idea nor to audition; but for your own protection, you should file a patent or provisional patent application (or have a current patent pending) before you participate in the series.

Q: Can you help me to patent my invention?
A: No, the Golf Channel cannot represent you or provide legal counsel in your patent acquisition. You will need to contact The United States Patent and Trademark Office, or a patent attorney, for more information.

Q: Am I eligible to apply if I have already applied and/or auditioned for a different show on Golf Channel?
A: Absolutely! You will need to submit a new application for this show, available on this web site.

Q: What are the citizenship requirements for this series?
A: We are currently accepting applications from all citizenships; however, we are only holding auditions in the United States.

Q: What is the process for becoming a contestant?
A: Every inventor will need to fill out the Official Application before attending a screening. You MUST complete this application, as it contains important legal and patent information and gives your consent to participate in the series. At the screening auditions, you will be asked to present your invention to a producer. Selected inventors will be notified by phone after all screenings are completed. Following the screenings, there may be another audition stage prior to becoming a contestant on the series. More details will follow your initial audition.

Q: May I submit / present more than one invention?
A: Yes, but you will have the same amount of time with a producer during your audition whether you present one or many inventions. Please lead with your best.

Q: Who pays for the auditions?
A: At all stages of auditions, all expenses are the full responsibility of the applicant. Should you be selected as a contestant, most travel related expenses from that time will be covered by Golf Channel.

Q: What should I expect at my audition?
A: The initial regional audition will require you to present your invention, so please plan to bring either a sketch or prototype with you. This stage will be an open call to all golf inventors, so presentation time will be limited. Please plan to arrive early on the audition date to register, and once your name is called, you will have individual time to present your invention to one of the series producers. After this time, you are free to leave. If you are called back for a second audition or a second stage of the casting, we will contact you shortly following the last audition date.

Q: What are the criteria you use to select inventors / inventions for the show?
A: Our producers will look at a variety of criteria for their selections, including quality and marketability of the invention, uniqueness of the idea, overall character of the inventor, and the history of and/or obstacles in developing the invention.

Q: Can I bring a guest to my audition?
A: You may bring one guest to the audition; however, they will not have access to the producer audition room. Only you and your direct partner(s) may present the invention. All expenses for guests will be the responsibility of the inventor, at all stages of the competition.

Q: How long after my audition will I know if I have been selected?
A: We will hold auditions across the country over the course of several weeks, so the casting decision could take up to ten (10) weeks following your audition. Please continue to check this web site for more information as the producers make their selections.

Q: Do you notify applicants of your decision either way?
A: If you ARE selected to participate in the series, we will contact you via phone and email – so please be sure to print that information clearly on your application. Because of the volume of applicants and the nature of the open-call auditions, we regret that we are unable to notify each person individually if they are NOT selected. We will be sure to post updates on this web site, including notice that we have made our final selections, so please check this site frequently following your audition.
