Grey Goose 19th Hole Talent:
John Hawkins
John Hawkins has covered pro golf since 1991, first as a general-assignment writer and columnist with the Washington Times, then for 14 years at Golf World magazine. In 2007, Hawkins became a panelist on the Golf Channel's "Grey Goose 19th Hole." His role at the network has continued to expand since.
In 2001, Hawkins' television career began with weekly appearances on ESPN News. His knowledge of the PGA Tour has helped him earn numerous citations from the Golf Writers Association of America, including first-place honors for his story on Tiger Woods' 12-stroke victory at the 1997 Masters, the U.S. rally at the 1999 Ryder Cup and Woods' "Tiger Slam" triumph at the 2001 Masters.
A graduate of Towson (Md.) University, Hawkins resides in Connecticut with his wife and two daughters.
Jeff Rude
Award-winning journalist Jeff Rude has been a senior writer at Golfweek magazine since 1995, with an emphasis on covering the PGA Tour and writing columns. He has been to more than 75 major championships and figures he has typed more words about Tiger Woods than anybody else this side of a wire service. Rude has won numerous national writing awards, including several firsts in the Golf Writers Assn. of America contest. Considering himself blessed, Rude did among the last interviews with Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson and caddied the Masters Par 3 Contest for Nick Price.
In addition to writing these days, he is a weekly regular on the Golf Channel prime-time show, the Grey Goose 19th Hole, on Wednesday nights and often is seen on the Channel’s Top 10 shows. He also does a weekly, humorous Hate to Be Rude segment for Golfweek.com in which he banters with leading Tour players and celebrities. In 2005-07, he co-hosted a national, two-hour golf show on ESPN Radio that reached more than 300 markets.
Rude is an Evans Scholar from Waukegan, Ill., and earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri. He caddied the PGA Tour while in college and later worked for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dallas Morning News and Chicago Sun-Times, among other newspapers. In between all that typing, he somehow has made five holes-in-one, which he considers more amazing than the comings and goings at Bermuda and Capistrano.
